Jamie McParland

Well some of you know I tried out for a band called 800 Octane. I was really looking forward to playing with them. We got together and jammed last month. I thought it went really good. I knew a bunch of the songs and got along really well with the guys.

They were gonna try out some other drummers and then let me know. So today I got am email from Eric. Apparently they picked another drummer. That’s ok but one of the reasons I got from Eric was kinda confusing.

“Jim was a big, loud, flashy show-off kind of a drummer and that’s really not what you are about behind the drum kit. You are a little more subtle, a little more intricate and a little more power than flashiness.”

Now anyone that has seen me play drums, sing and play guitar, ride a bike knows that I’m the biggest showoff ever. When I read that I thought my head was gonna implode!

I, Jamie McParland wasn’t flashy enough? This is the guy at age 5 stood on top of his dresser and lip-synced and danced to kiss records while his family threw change at him wasn’t flashy enough?

The guy with a his penis on his birthday cake, the guy who rides bikes and does a sport founded on showing off wasn’t flashy enough?

HAHA!

So I called Eric to find out what the fuck he was talking about. Short of setting my cymbals on fire at the try out I don’t know how I could have been more flashy!

Anyway I talked to Eric and I guess they basically just like the other guys drumming better for them. That’s cool. I am a bit disappointed though. No hard feelings with the band. I really like the guys, and can’t blame them for picking the drummer they thought was best.

Not sure what I’m gonna do now as far as music is concerned. Guess I’m destined to be stuck in the basement. Ugh!
