Awhile ago I was thinking to myself that the founding fathers would be disappointed in the way our government has turned out to be. One of my favorite founding fathers is Jefferson. I was reading some stuf about him tonight and thought I would post some of his quotes for you to ponder.
“Democracy is 51% of the people taking away the rights of the other 49%.”
“Because religious belief, or non-belief, is such an important part of every person’s life, freedom of religion affects every individual. State churches that use government power to support themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of the church tends to make the clergy unresponsive to the people and leads to corruption within religion. Erecting the “wall of separation between church and state,” therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society.”
“Conquest is not in our principles. It is inconsistent with our government.”
“Delay is preferable to error.”
“Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe.”
“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty. ”
